US crude steel output in 2017 reached 90.1 million tons
US production of 90.1 million tons of steel in 2017, up 4.3% from a year earlier.According to the data from the American Iron and Steel Institute, the steel mills in the Great Lakes region produced 639,000 tons of crude steel in the penultimate week of December, most of which were produced by Lake County and Porter County in southwestern Indiana.
In 2017, the domestic steel plant capacity utilization rate was 74.3%. In 2016, the capacity utilization rate was 70.5%.According to the data from the U.S. Iron and Steel Institute, the utilization rate of domestic steel products in the last week of December 2017 was 70.2%, up from 73.7% in the previous week but sharply higher than the utilization efficiency of 67.8% in the same period of 2016.
Overall, U.S. steel output fell 81,000 tons to 1.63 million tons last week, down 4.7% from the previous week's previous week's output of 1.71 million tons.
