North American steel production increased in May
In May, crude steel production in North America increased by4.3% year-on-year to 10.107 million tons. It is worth noting that all countriesin the region have seen an increase in crude steel production in May.
The United States continues to be the largest crude steelproducer in the region, with production soaring from 6.91 million tons in May2017 to 7.107 million tons in May this year. Compared with the same period lastyear, Mexico's crude steel output increased by 3.4% to 1.8 million tons.Canada's total production was 1.145 million tons, compared with 1.01 milliontons in the same period last year, an increase of 14.3%.
In the first five months, North America produced a total of49.465 million tons of crude steel, compared with 47.985 million tons in thesame period last year, an increase of 3.1%. The total output of the UnitedStates is 34.846 million tons, accounting for more than 70% of the region'soutput.
