Rio Tinto's iron ore output declined in the third quarter
On October 16, Rio Tinto released its third quarterproduction performance report. In the third quarter, Rio Tinto's iron oreproduction (100% basis) reached 82.5 million tons, down 3% year-on-year and 3%lower than the second quarter. From the first three quarters, the total outputof Rio Tinto iron ore was as high as 251 million tons, a year-on-year increaseof 4%.
The reason for Rio Tinto’s decline in iron ore production inthe third quarter was related to an accident. On August 15, a truck driver wasfatally wounded at the Rio Parapaldu mine. Rio Tinto said in the report thatdue to the planned maintenance and safety rectification of the workers afterthe death of the workers, Rio Tinto suspended all operations, resulting in adecline in iron ore production in the third quarter.
